Los Palominos are set to release their highly-anticipated new album this week. The album from the Grammy-winning group is titled, El Orgullo de Uvalde. It was one year ago today that a horrible tragedy happened in their hometown when 19 children and two teachers were killed by a gunman at Robb Elementary School.
James Arreola of Los Palominos opened up about that tragic event in an interview with The Bo Corona Show. “Never in my wildest dreams did I think something like this would happen in our hometown,” he said. “In our small town, everybody in Uvalde knows each other so when it hit the community this was something really tragic and it’s been hard. I tell people this is going to be a long recovery, there’s been so much happening to that small little town.”
Los Palominos made the decision to continue as planned with their annual Palomino Fest last September where the band paid tribute to the victims and survivors of that fateful day while raising thousands of dollars for victims and education in the community.
“People don’t know what our community is all about because a lot of people before this never heard of the city of Uvalde. The first thing they hear about it is this horrible shooting that happened,” added Arreola. “This community is a beautiful place. I was born and raised in Uvalde. I went to school at the school where this horrible tragedy happened. Sometimes I’m speechless, you know, I have no words to even say anything about what’s going on because your brain has so much to process and it’s hard to just bring into words what you want to say because there’s so much that you want to say. You’re mad, you’re upset. There are all possible emotions going on and that’s sort of what the community is like right now. Keep our community in your prayers because we’re going to need this for a long time. It is going to be a really long recovery.”
We will always remember the 21 victims of Robb Elementary as we are all united for Uvalde.

Los Palominos were formed in 1986 by four brothers under the name Los Tremendos Pequeños. Their music includes polka, rancheras, boleros, ballads, and cumbias. The group, who became Los Palominos in 1991, won both a GRAMMY award and a Latin GRAMMY for Best Tejano Album in 1999 with Por Eso Te Amo, adding two more Latin GRAMMYs for Best Tejano Album in 2006 with Evoluciones, and in 2017 for the album Piénsalo.
