Grupo Vidal has entertained Tejano music fans since the mid-1990s and the Kingsville, Texas-based band released their new EP, Siente El Amor (Feel The Love), in May. Javier Vidal, the lead singer and bajo sexto player for Grupo Vidal, shared details on the project and much more in an interview last month with “The Keith Leal Show” on HoustonsTejanoHits.com.

“The album is ‘Siente El Amor’ and (the cover) has two hearts linked together forever chained,” said Vidal, “‘Siente El Amor’ en la musica (in the music), with your partner, with your family. This is going to be a CD that you can have your barbecue, your family night. Just pop it in, stream it, download it, whatever you want to do, you’re going to be able to enjoy good music, good vibe, and feel the love of the music while you’re making memories with your family.”

One of the songs from the six-track EP includes “INDIGO,” a song recorded by Colombian singer Camilo and his wife, Venezuelan singer and actress Evaluna Montaner, last year.

“At first I wasn’t sold on it,” said Vidal. “At first I thought it was talking about love, I just didn’t know what kind of love. When I finally understood that it’s talking about someone’s unborn child. The love that they feel when they find out they’re going to have a baby, that they’re going to have a child come into their world. What a great message to share with everyone who will listen and so I was sold.”

Javier Vidal also shared Grupo Vidal’s journey as a family band in the music industry over the past two decades, their vocal appearance in the Selena movie including the film’s soundtrack, and advice for new artists.

The latest song release from Grupo Vidal puts a spin on the smash hit by Country icon Garth Brooks, “Much Too Young (to Feel This Damn Old),” adding their own style to the rhythm and fusing together the sounds of the past with their cultural roots to spin a new sound, a new movement, and a new cumbia style.

“We’ve taken such a climatic hit in its time with Garth Brooks but brought it back to life in our culture,” said Vidal. “Keeping it grounded and rooted so that people could be like, ‘I know this song but I don’t know it like this but I like it like this.’ And it’s been such a blessing to witness that.”
