In an interview with ABC News, the family of Selena Quintanilla-Perez announced they’re releasing new music from the late singer to inspire a younger generation.
It’s been 27 years since the tragic death of Selena and the legacy of the star continues to grow with each generation. A new song from the bicultural icon was released this week, “Como Te Quiero Yo A Ti” (The Way I Love You), and was updated, engineered, and re-mastered for a new generation. It’s the lead single from the highly anticipated new album, Moonchild Mixes, produced by her brother A.B. Quintanilla.
“It truly feels like she went into the studio again and recorded it and it’s pretty incredible,” said Suzette Quintanilla, Selena’s sister and Q Productions CEO/President.

The song was taken from the Q Productions vault and was originally recorded by Selena as a teenager.
“It took me a little over a year, there was a lot of obstacles to overcome,” said A.B. Quintanilla about producing the song. “Everything was recorded on vinyl so we kind of had to fuse the old school ways with the new school ways.”
As for the critics that say Selena’s family is taking advantage of her legacy, Suzette replied, “We don’t care about them. We think as artists and musicians who are in the public eye, you just have to turn that off. We’re still going to do what we want with our music, with our sister, with our band. I hope people understand that everything we do, we do it with love and care and with beauty.”
Selena’s legacy continues for the next era of fans 27 years after her death.
“There’s a whole new generation that is discovering Selena or that has discovered her already,” said Suzette. “It’s breathing life back into older songs that have not been heard as much.”
“Como Te Quiero Yo Ti” reached the Top 5 of the iTunes Top Latin Songs. The new album from Selena, Moonchild Mixes, is scheduled for release on August 26, 2022.
